I understand the part about not singing & chanting outside -- that was part of the 1991 NPC Rush Resolutions of which we all agreed; however, nowhere does it say you can't shake hands or hug. That's obviously a local rule. Sometimes I think we (Panhellenic) get so carried away trying to regulate every aspect of the process. I think too often we "major in the minors!" Some campuses have taken the term "no frills" and turned it into "no fun!" Instead, we should be more concerned with making the experience comfortable, typical, enjoyable & normal. The hug in the UCLA picture looks completely sincere. In "real life" we hug new friends (especially after a considerable amount of good conversation which probably included some significant topics of self-disclosure in a pref. setting).
