Alpha Beta flourished for many more years until the 70's when Greeks everywhere where having membership problems. Membership dwindled, and sections of the house were rented to other sororities who were unable to keep their chapter houses. In 1973, membership dwindled to 3 women, however, with enthsiastic rushing and alumnae support, especially from Phebe Morse Swineheart, the girls were able to build the chapter back up without ever deactivating. Alpha Beta was the only chapter on campus to be able to do this.
In 1977, Alpha Beta alum Phebe Morse Swinehart was awarded the Circle of Epsilon Pi. Less than 20 women have ever accomplished this.
