here's the rush rules from the U of Arkansas:

Summer Recruitment - May 1 - July 29

Fraternities with less than 66 members may:

Contact Potential New Members by phone or letter from May 1 - July 29.
Have personal contact and Recruitment parties from June 1 - August 1.
Extend bids to Potential New Members June 1 - July 29.

Fraternities with more than 66 members may:

Contact Potential New Members by phone or letter from May 1 - July 29.
Have personal contact and Recruitment parties from July 1 - July 29.
Extend bids to upperclassmen and transfer students between April 29 - July 29.
Bids which are issued during the summer are binding for one semester.
All contact with Potential New Members will end July 29.
Fraternity members, new members, and alumni are not permitted to provide alcohol to prospective New Members during summer Recruitment.

Fall Formal Recruitment - August 13 -17

When a man receives a bid under the preferential system, the signing of the preference card shall be binding to the extent that he shall be considered ineligible for one semester for a bid from any fraternity ON THIS CAMPUS other than the one from which he received a bid.
Fraternity men may not have contact with Potential New Members' parents or relatives during Formal Recruitment.
No parents, guardians, or relatives may attend any party during Recruitment Week.
Fraternity men, actives, new members (EXCEPT the IFC staff or personnel, or parents of the Potential New Members) may not communicate by phone, letter, or in person, with Potential New Members during Formal Recruitment.
Alcohol consumption and alcohol possession is prohibited during Fall Formal Recruitment.
Potential New Members will not attempt to contact members, alumni, or agents of any fraternity during Formal Recruitment.
No written or verbal bids may be extended during Formal Recruitment periods.
Eligibility for Membership Recruitment

New students admitted to the University of Arkansas are eligible to participate in Formal Membership Recruitment and become new members their first semester. Transfer students with a 2.25 GPA on a minimum of 24 transferable hours are eligible to become new members their first semester. Students transferring in with less than 24 hours must meet the same requirement as new students to become new members their first semester. All other students must have completed at least 12 hours of college level course work with at least a 2.25 cumulative GPA to become new members.
