I know the AXD house has an annex that's primarily upperclassmen, too.

Staying in the halls during rush is totally different than staying in during the rest of the year. You have to pay $330 to live McMahon Hall that week (of course a lot of local women just stay with their parents), which is not necessarily where you'd be living if you don't join anywhere.

I'll just quote from their Panhel page:

"If you have signed up to live in a residence hall for the 2002-2003 academic year or are planning to do so, you should consider the following information.

It is up to you if you would like to sign up for residence hall housing for the 2003-04 school year. You will, however, have to pay the applicable cancellation fee if you decide to join a sorority. If you do not want to sign up for University housing at this time, you have the option of waiting until after recruitment week to do so. It is possible and likely that there will be a waiting list at this time.

Regular cancellation fees will be assessed upon receipt of written notice of cancellation and/or failure to move into assigned space, if no notification is received for students who have signed up for University housing."

So basically, you probably want to sign up for the halls, or be willing to look for an apartment fast! Since housing is tight, if you're not from the Seattle area and don't join, you'll be on the waiting list (that is, homeless) for too long to justify waiting for a room.
