Here is what constantly amazes me about Sorority Life (oh, excuse me... Pledge Life!) - the attitudes towards the New Members are so radically different from anything that I am used to.

In my org, as I'm sure it is in most of yours - New Members are your LIFE! They are what is going to keep your sisterhood going after you are gone. When our new girls come to Kappa, they get hugs and smiles and love and presents. They are welcomed with open arms, and we go out of our way to make sure they're happy and like us as much as we like them. Of course, in that we're trying to teach them about the sorority, and help them understand things like respect for older sisters, but they really don't need to deal with attitude the first week they're there!

On all seasons of Sorority Life, it seems to be like "Oh, well they have to PROVE that they're good enough" and "earn" their way in - if you didn't think they were good enough for your organization, why did you give them a bid?

What really irked me was when one of the pledges said about Val (is she a robot by the way? She totally freaks me out) is that she's their Pledge Mom, she isn't supposed to be nice to them. That's a complete 180 from my sorority - your New Member Educator IS like your mom, you're supposed to be able to approach her with issues, comments, concerns - and she listens, and helps you out. She's like the one older sister you can always go to if you screwed up, and she's there to look out for you and protect you - not to get you in trouble or be mean to you!

And that crap when Carmen was trying to sleep... that was just rude. Ugh.
