I think I was a hybrid.
Growing up in Columbus in the figurative "shadow" of Ohio State, many of us sort of skipped high school socially and spent our time on campus with fake ID's etc.
Not particularly talented in athletics, but an awful lot of people knew me because of being the "voice" of the school -- doing morning announcements, announcer for marching band, MC'd variety shows, did sock hops, etc. Also worked at the local rock station at night, so if they called, I'm the guy who answered the phone.
Was an honor roll student most of the time.
I was also one of three guys who drove true British sportscars -- even though it was a wreck.
At the same time, I did date a lot of girls and "went steady" with a very popular girl in the class behind me -- also earlier with a fairly popular girl in the class ahead of me.
So, maybe the best way to say it is that I was, "In with the out crowd."
edited because my brain types faster than my fingers do.
