Because he was the target, anything he saw or heard could be relevant and make him a material winess whom they can subpoena or issue a warrant for in order to get him to come in. Come to think of it, I won't be surprised if I heard that his crew members fired back. I think 50 would roll with folks who are ready to set if off when necessary.
