A memory from the 60's when things were a bit more formal in many ways.
My memory is of the nightly dinner at the chapter house when all of the brothers were dressed in jacket and tie, and stood at our seats until the Chapter President or Pledge President escorted our very elegant house mother to her seat at the head of the table.
"Mom" taught us much about etiquette and formal table manners which served us well as we entered our adult lives and careers. (That's probably how most of us learned with fork to use -- think about it)
The parties and pranks were fun, but to me, this exercise in civility and gentlemanly behavior really made a most lasting impression.
And, after dinner, singing a few of the songs of the fraternity around the table. It sounds a little trite in this day and age, but really helped build the brotherhood.
