I was basically in the same position as you last year at this time... I had taken a little in the spring, a good friend named Kathleen. Kathleen and I have SO much in common - we're both theatre majors, know the same people, hung out before she pledged Kappa, have the same morals, come from similar families, and got along wonderfully. We like doing the same things. We were a great big/little pair, and I LOVED having her at Kappa. Unfortunately, just before Initiation her family had some money issues, and she was not able to be initiated. I was heartbroken. I had been SO excited about her Initiation, was so looking forward to truely calling her my sister - and now I didn't get to.

So when the fall rolled around, I was excited about getting another little, but there was a bitterness to it as well - I didn't think I could ever get a little as special as Kathleen. I didn't really click with any of the New Members, and so when we had to list the three girls we wanted as littles, I didn't even know who to put down - I just picked three who seemed nice. And then our New Member Ed came to me, and told me that Tracy had listed me as first choice for her big sister, but she hadn't been on my list. I barely knew Tracy - we had maybe one conversation prior to this point. I'm fairly conservative, and Tracy is a wild child. She drinks a lot, parties a lot, dates 10 boys at once - I'm exaggerating a little, but not much! We had NOTHING in common. I had to think long and hard before agreeing to take her as a little - and then everyone in the sorority came up to me at least three times and said "Wow, you guys have nothing in common... how's that gonna work?"

However, it somehow did work. Tracy and I ended up complimenting each other wonderfully - we balance each other out. We found that we did have things in common, and while we didn't seem to make sense at first (and we had some awkward times when we didn't know each other so well), we ended up being one of the strongest big/little pairs. I even dragged her out to work at camp with me this summer, which is something that she NEVER would have done before joining Kappa - living for two months in the woods without electricity or flushing toilets!

To add a happy ending to my (long!) story, Kathleen was able to come back to Kappa last fall, so I suddenly had two little sisters in the same semster - my TWINS! And Kathleen and Tracy get along wonderfully, and now that I'm alum they kinda have each other to lean on - and their Initiation was my favorite Kappa memory - being able to bring two beautiful, amazing, classy young women into the organization I love so dearly!

So I think you should take this guy as your little - it might work out way better than you had hoped.
