I've heard on the news in the past both sides, y'know one side saying well if someone was diagnosed as autistic after happening to have a vaccination it happens because as vaccinations are due to be given around the same time that autistic symptoms would present themself and become clearer, anyway. And of course, I've heard those advocating there is, based on evidence, a link.
On a tangent, in the courts in the UK there was a case where a husband and wife split up, the mother got custody but refused to give the kids the vaccinations in case of a link between autism. The father took it to court and the mother was directed to give these children the all-in-one jab (the case involved the MMR - measles, mumps, rubella vaccination).
On autism, I heard of (and have seen) high functioning or expetionally talented autistic people but from little I know the self-reliance thing is a key part of it. That said I've also come across autistic people who have graduated university... and he could still tell you the day you were born from your d.o.b.
The way I once heard it explained was autism is a condition where a person does not have all the day to day distractions the rest of us do, if s/he has a talent like drawing then they will excel in that to the expense of *everything* else which is a part of daily life. Is this accurate? (obviously I know it's hyper-simplified).
