PET PEEVE!
Who the heck to the profs think they have in their classes. A bunch of little rich kids?
When I taught a college course, we didn't use a book. The course curriculum came from my experience and participation in class of working professional guests who were kind enough to share their time and knowledge.
I know that's not always possible -- but JEEZ, college is expensive enough without getting hammered by egocentric professors who either use their own books or their friends.
OK, now I'm off on a tangent with that last sentence. Sorry.
End of rant.

DA, you have distguished yourself even more now.
I paid $120 for one of my texts - a
used Macro book. Now granted, my professors do have a bunch of spoiled little rich kids in their classes, but still - 60% of my book costs were for 3 classes. One of my classes was supposed to be taught almost entirely using web-based material - we only had to drop $90 on books.
