I deleted this cuz LuaBlanca fixed the prob but then since others were having similar probs on the offchance it may be useful I clicked back to the post and pasted it into here:
Without it in front of you to fiddle it's hard to say. So... process of elimination.
Double click the volume (speaker) icon in the taskbar and make sure the mute buttons aren't checked and volume sliders aren't almost off. Click advanced tab and de-select Digital output only, if it is checked. If it's still all quiet on the western front...
Go into the control panel from the start menu and find the sounds and audio devices & open it. Again make sure on the first tab that mute isn't selected; then click the Hardware tab on the end. Highlight the item in the list that is your soundcard (the others will be game controller, codecs or modem audio only) and click Properties. At the bottom of that dialog box make sure enable is set in the pull down menu. Then click the tab marked Properties, select your sound card again and make sure 'use audio features on this device' is checked. Click OK.
Let us know?
