Being a legacy does not grant you automatic membership. You will be evaluated on the same criteria as everyone else. Whether or not you are given a hard time because you are a legacy depends on my sorors' attitudes within that chapter. If you claim legacy status by your mother, she must be an active soror for a certain number of consecutive years; not just currently active. You can ask her about that.
When the time comes for you to disclose you are a legacy, tell the truth. Some legacies take that title for granted and begin to think they must do nothing to show their worthiness. I think that is why some have been given a hard time. Have confidence in yourself and know that you can stand on your own with or without the status of legacy attached to you.
