At least on my campus, stolen composites are always returned. We also steal things like paddles, and we had a banner that we kept in the corner of our chapter room with the symbols, our founding date, chapter name, etc. that was stolen once.
Composite stealing is relatively rare just because those things are so heavy.
It's a lot easier to steal a paddle.
