Locally, our philanthropy is Harbor House, a domestic abuse shelter. In addition to donating money, we go do programs for the children who stay there.

In the fall, we do an annual caramel apple sale at the homecoming football game. We go apple-picking as a sisterhood event, we invite freshmen women to join us in making the caramel apples for a pre-recruitment event (we have deferred recruitment), and we sell them at the game. For publicity, we paint a wall on campus.

In the spring we have an event called Pie-a-Prof. We get faculty and staff members to volunteer to have pies (plates of whipped cream) and water balloons thrown at them, and we sell pies for a dollar and water balloons for 50 cents. It's only the second year that we've done that, but it's become kind of an honor among faculty members to be asked to volunteer. For publicity, we make t-shirts with iron-ons and put posters up all over the place.

ETA: Perhaps we should move this to the philanthropy/fundraising thread?
