Re Janet, it was a cover of Rolling Stone, which to me makes a big difference. It's a music-geared magazine. Elle, on the other hand, is just about fashion, and I certainly don't consider Titney a fashion icon (especially if she's nearly nekkid).
The moral of the Britney story is don't paint yourself into a corner with a "wholesome" image and trumpet your virginity, then get found out later. I have no idea about Norah Jones' sex life, nor do I care. She will be making music long after Britney finally dies out completely.
