It makes me so sad to see that many badges being auctioned off--and all at the same time! The one with the emeralds is pretty darned new. Surely the owner didn't take her sisterhood for granted to the point of selling her badge for what she can get?
I know some of these are from estate sales, families who didn't know what to do with it and don't know the significance it holds for members...but gosh darn it! No where in the creed of ANY GLO does it mention "By the way, these words apply only to collegiates," as the many happy and active alumnae can attest to! I wish there were something to be done. I guess I take comfort in the sisters who go about buying the badges to save them from collectors, but I wish the problem could be stopped at its source and these precious objects wouldn't come up for sale to the highest bidder.
Sigh.
