My birthday is right around Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving dinner was always turkey and stuffing followed by ice cream cake. It was many years before I learned that the "traditional" Thanksgiving dessert was pie.
And I, too, got the "here, kid, this is for your birthday
and Christmas/Hanukkah" thing.
My 21st birthday was actually
on Thanksgiving. None of my friends was available to go out drinking with me, nor were there any bars open anyway. Sigh...
