Since I wrote this post, I've actually done some research and talked to my friend, and calmed down from the initial panic. We think all the needs done is to replace the switch, which he actually has an extra one.
Gotta love google. Typed in "nissan 200SX" "power window" and "problem" and the first thing that showed up was a yahoogroup discussion which told me exactly what was wrong.
The internet rocks. Especially for a girl clueless about cars!
