The FIJI's on my campus voluntarily went dry around 1999 or so. Their national headquarters awarded them some ridiculous amount, like $10,000, for agreeing to go dry. Soon thereafter, membership and popularity bottomed out in the chapter. I heard that they managed to raise all of the $10,000 or so do give back to NHQ so they could be a "wet" chapter again.
In all reality, they never went dry. They would just pull their couches out onto the sidewalk where the land was city owned, and technically off their property, and drink there on the sidewalk.
