Don't drive in Boston, parking is expensive and drivers are aggressive. The T will take you anywhere you need to go.

Good points that I forgot. Mike's has amazing pastries - the line can be a bit long, but it's worth it (and yes, it is on Hanover Street).
You should definitely have seafood for at least one meal while you're here - it is summer afterall, and the seafood is fresh/very good. The seafood restaurants on Boston Harbor are excellent, but you can also go to The Union Oyster House for some good clams and lobster. I wouldn't recommend Legal Seafood (it's not nearly as good as it used to be), but the chowder is still very good.
Have to second the driving thing - driving in Boston is a nightmare, especially your first time going through. Just pay attention to the signs if you're on the T, and if you have a question, ask a passenger or T driver. For every jerk, there's usually someone to help you (I always try to help tourists if I see them having trouble).
