XP Home isn't that bad for networking, i've been using it for all my uses fine...changes can be made on the network itself pretty easily to allow XP Home to be used.
Also, you shouldn't have to use the operating system to find drivers - just keep all your CD's or look for them online yourself, they are extremely easy to find.
