Okay, I don't know if any of you remember a couple of months ago, I was saying that I had to withdraw from one of my classes last semester (which screwed up my financial aid, and caused me to have to pay out of pocket for school). I was really stressing because I didn't think I was going to have that much money to pay for school in about the next 3 weeks or my classes would be dropped. A couple of months ago, I spoke with the nurse recruiter at my hospital about assistance opportunities, and she told me that the only thing that they had available was tuition reimbursement. I told her that that wouldn't necessarily work because you have to first pay the school, then get reimbursed later. She told me about another program where they paid for my schooling and I would just have to sign a contract to continue working for them for however many years. I wasn't feeling this, but at this point I would consider it. She told me she would get back to me with specifics...that was like 3 months ago.

Fastforward, Wednesday nite, I was praying for guidance. I didn't know whether I should apply to another school to see if I could get a better financial package, try to go to my bank and take out loans, etc. I just was like, "Lord, you know what I need, just help me do what's in your will, make it clear to me." Thursday morning this lady calls me (the one I hadn't heard from in three months), and she's like she needs me to stay over Friday morning to meet with this other lady. So Friday morning I stick around after I get off, and go to administration to meet with this lady, who turns out to be the VP of Nursing, and the Chief Nursing Officer . She told me that she just really wanted to meet me and "chat" with me for a few minutes. She asked me how school was going, and what kind of nurse I wanted to be. She talked about how it was for her going through nursing school (come to find out she was a psych major first also), and how much we'd had in common, then she broke it down. She said, "Look, I just really wanted to meet and chat with you and see where your head was at. We've already pulled your employment record, and I have here recommendations from your supervisor, your manager, the night nursing supervisor, and the ER nurse director (all of these people I have never asked for a recommendation), I spoke with all of these people and they've told me how diligent an employee you are and how efficient you are, and I just wanted to let you know that __________ hospital would be honored to pay for your education." I am like WHAAAA???? She said that this was NOT a work commitment and that if I CHOSE to leave after I finished school, I could, but that these people just know that I am going to be a wonderful nurse, and they want to see me finish my education!!!

WHY was I on the elevator just standing there all teared up for like 5 minutes before I realized I hadn't pressed the button? Ya'll why did it take all the restraint in the world not to just rush this lady? It feels like such a weight lifted off of my shoulder not to have to worry about school. That was the BEST birthday gift I have gotten in a while! She told me just to go get the bill from my school and bring it to them. Next semester they will write it all up (so that I know that they are serious), and that they will include money for books for all upcoming semesters.
