Oh! I learned this from my mother-in-law since moving to the Virgin Islands: don't cut a baby's hair before he/she begins to talk because then they will never talk.

It is a tradition in my family for a baby boy to get his first haircut on his first birthday. I was feeling "put under pressure" because of these two traditions. I didn't want either family to feel hurt. You know how seriously people take these things and I didn't want any "drama".

I started coaching my son so he would say several phrases before his first birthday, that way everyone would be happy. Turns out, most of his "baby" hair fell out and he didn't even need a haircut. Phew...
