Ball State had a few good urban legends going. The first is that the sororities don't have houses because in the 1920s a daughter of one of the Ball brothers (of canning jar fame and the funders of Ball State) was blackballed from her sorority. The second is that Ball State has this beautiful sculpture of a winged, female figure called Beneficence (aka Bennie) by Daniel Chester French (the sculptor who did the figure of Lincoln in the Lincoln Memorial in DC). Legend has it that if you kiss a virgin in front of Bennie her wings will flap...and they haven't flapped yet. They used to tell that one during orientation during the non-PC 80s.

Our chapter house is actually haunted, but I think I'll start a new thread for that one!
