Hi! I was wondering, what do Deltas, Alphas, Kappas, etc. stand for??

Also, I'm quite confused...looking around the Web, I see that, for instance, Kappa Delta has chapters under them: i.e. Alpha Rho. Then how do you know if you are a Kappa or an Alpha?? Sorry I am a bit clueless on these things!!
