I saw an interview with Ms. McMillan yesterday and she said it was seven years in the making. She stated some of the mother's traits were from her mother, but when her mother suddenly died and then she lost her best friend, she had to put it away for a while. She says it was about how parents are nosy and when is the time when parents let go and let their children become adults without them butting in. She does not want to see it made into a movie as of yet, but wouldn't mind seeing it as a weekly series.
