Being a Jersey girl (just outside of Philadelphia) and going to school in North Carolina, I get the best of the South vs. North thing. I have learned to love sweet tea and Waffle House, I actually watch college basketball, and the word "y'all" has become a staple of my vocabulary. However, there are definitely things that just say home....
1. CHEESE STEAKS. I don't care how many "Jersey Mike's" or "Philly Connections" you've got, there is nothing like the genuine article.
2. The Jersey shore. Cape May, Wildwood, Stone Harbor, Sea Isle, Atlantic City...where you can visit Sorrento's I-VI on the same strip of boardwalk, ride the rides, and get the best fudge in the whole world.
3. Everything that's been said about fall and then some. It's the most crisp, comforting, beautiful season of the year.
4. The wealth of history, too. Every time I go into the city, there are more things to see, more history to learn.
5. "Land of a 1,000 Wawa's." If you don't know Wawa, you're missing out.
6. Philly sports...I don't care how many times the Phillies, Flyers, 76ers, or Eagles ALMOST make it, I'll still be there next year for all the heart-breaking action.
I know there's a lot of folks (heh, another Southernism) posting on Boston and New York, both wonderful places to be, but I just wanted to post my little ode to Philadelphia.
