It would be almost impossible for a state to leave the Union at this point in time. Travel, commerce, government, budgets, infrastructure, education -- really almost everything necessary for government to exist -- are just too intertwined.
And, I agree, military matters really aren't relavent. There is no state in a position to win a war. It costs too much.
