I think one of the reasons why we're allowed to use different colors for our letters is because of money... I don't think that when our organizations were founded that they thought about wearing our letters in different colors... I believe it was the retailers that came up with that idea... To make more profit.
Think about it like this: If I bought a sweatshirt in blue with gold letters, and another sweatshirt in gold with blue letters... then I'm only gonna have two sweatshirts... whereas if I buy every single combination of colors under the rainbow, then I'll have a lot more sweatshirts. It's all about the money.
And then again, none of that might be true... I donno.
