but for real, it is a major deal down there to be an ATM......have to go through a whole interview process, must have a good GPA, and they only take 50 girls from all the mobile area. have over a 1000, i think, apply for it. my best friend from middle school was "queen" and she was the only one with the pink dress (i hate pink, so there's NO WAY i would've wanted to be queen)...the other colors you can have are blue, green, yellow, purple, and peach (all pastels). needless to say, i was quite the unhappy gal when we moved and i was unable to do it....i had looked forward to being one since i was 9.
and don't you worry, rudey.....they only wear the dresses at certain events. they are at the airport when important guests come into town, they are "decoration" around bellingrath gardens (this huge, beautiful piece of property down there....grand old house with lots of gardens....amazing), and they also do macy's and disney world parades. basically, they are a representation of the beautiful South.....they are nothing but gracious at ALL times.....i dunno....it's weird. they have this lil curtsey (sp?...bad spelling today....) they do and everything....it's neat-o.
chicks also have pictures made for the back of their yrbooks in their ATM undies....they have to have the complete get-up....the dress, the hat, the gloves, the parasol, and the pantalettes (sp?). ppl go nuts.....but the dresses cost over $500, so ya know. i guess i'd have my pic in every aspect of that outfit if i paid that much, too.
