Potential New Members: Most of what's been written have been rumors, while others have been truths... Please note that what we post on this thread is not how all Greek Organizations are, and only a very small percentage of Greek Life actually have to experience these pratices...

Unfortunately, I know a lot of greeks that have gone through a lot of crap during their pledge period.

These are just some that I know of... (All from different orgs, schools, etc.)

A friend of mine and his pledge class had to steal a street light, and bring it back to the house.

There is a frat that makes it's pledges dress in drag before they will be initiated.

Some of the greeks I know were paddled regularly as pledges.

Another fraternity makes it's plegdes make their class paddle by hand... Once they're done, they are to present it to the brothers... Then the brothers will paddle the pledges until the wood breaks.

The military style line ups are very common around here. I know a girl that now walks with a cane, because she messed up her knee from dropping during her line up.

Uniforms are also very common. One group has to wear black suits and ties during their whole pledge period, another group wears jumpsuits, but the most common uniforms are sweats. And the sororities aren't allowed to wear make-up and HAVE to have their hair a certain way...

I looked through a fraternity's photo album during Welcome Week, and saw some really nasty stuff!!! Pictures: There were pledges in their uniforms... Then there were pledges taking off their uniforms, showing some speedos underneath... Then the pledges were doing push ups in their speedos... And the last picture was of the actives masturbating on the pledges backs!

A lot of groups on campus have the No Talking rule, during pledging. Some groups only allow the pledges to talk to the actives... And some groups will allow the pledges to speak to someone if that person addresses them. But they have to keep it at a minimum.

I know of pledges having to carry around certain items, like bricks, pledge keys or manuals, the wooden pledge tiki around the neck, etc.

A few organizations have the "moment of breakdown"... Where their pledges aren't allowed to cross (during the night of initiation) until they breakdown and cry.

Then there is the ever present "branding" that goes on.
