I know several people (male and female) who attended a private Church of Christ school. They were all a member of various social groups. The college would not allow National GLOs on campus, but they had their own local social groups.
From what my friends told me, these pictures aren't suprising. At their school, there is one week that is "Pledge Week" for the whole school. I'm not sure of the selection process, but at some point you decide to join QVC or The Kings or whatever the group was called (most of them didn't have greek letters). Then, during Pledge Week, all the pledges wear whatever the members tell them to, do embarrassing stuff on campus and god knows what off campus. Then, at the end of the week, you are initiated or whatever they do, and you are a member! The end, or beginning..... One male group had their official yearbook picture taken in front of the county detention center (it was actually pretty funny)
The school schedules the Pledge Week either halfway thru the fall semester or during spring semester (can't remember, but it's not right at the beginning of school) so the freshmen get a chance to see what the orgs are about, etc.
So as far as I can tell, these pictures are accurate for several religious campuses for that time period (late 90s-2001 or 2002). Don't know if things have changed or not. (Doesn't make it right, but there it is).
