If he's not willing to switch to the third service one day to meet you, maybe he's not the kind of guy you're looking for anyway.
On another note, I'm only offering advice because I have done this - very recently. I met a very nice guy on BlackPlanet, and it turns out that we were at the same school. I was still very skeptical about meeting him, and all my friends called me crazy too. We agreed to meet in the library (I agree with the public place suggestion), and things have been on and kicking ever since.
As long as you're safe and make sure you both have the same intentions, everything should be okay. Good luck!
