My mom answers the calls at an insurance company (she's not just a receptionist though, she has a few other duties). She's been taking certification classes and all, but she's said the same thing - people assume she's an expert on insurance, and don't want to wait to speak to an agent, etc.
I'd get really annoyed by it, I'm not sure how she's able to deal with the people she is day in and day out; and I consider myself a really patient people-person.
