My school has deferred rush until fall of sophmore year so I entered my school without even a thought about sororities. During freshmen orientation, we received packets describing all the clubs and activities on campus as well as the names of the presidents of each club. I was reading through it and when I read about Phi Mu, I recognized the name of the president as someone I had met during one of the orientation activities. Just knowing the president of Phi Mu set that sorority apart from the others. When sophmore year rolled around, I started thinking about rush but decided not to because I was afraid everyone would cut me - despite the fact that my friends in Phi Mu were begging me to rush (not a rush violation because I wasn't a registered rushee yet). I skipped rush but on bid day I saw all the Phis, including my neighbor in the dorm, with their their teeshirts and balloons and I was really jealous because I wanted to be a part of all that. A friend of mine invited me to a post rush COB party and I went - still afraid of being cut - and received a bid a few days later.
