ok, i may be shot for this, but keep in mind, this is my opinion. i think we take things wayyyyyy to seriously. i really don't know if this started from a post that was made recently or if this was a notice in general. in either case, i feel like we (as members of the greek community) perpetuate the stereotype that greek orgs "rule" the lives of their members. people don't want to join groups if they feel that in order to be a part, they will have to give up the right to make their own decisions. i have had people say to me that they would never be greek bc they like to think for themselves. we (as members of greek orgs) are running around saying that you can be an individual and have your own thoughts, feelings, etc., but then we say that someone shouldn't post a story if it might make the group look bad. i see a clear distinction between someone posting ritual related things and hey i got drunk the other night or i got a tattoo on my boob, etc. yes, it is important to be respectful of other people, so i don't think it is ok for someone to berate someone else. if a member of any group was posting something degoratory based on race, religion, etc., then i would be the first to be upset. there are differences tho. when people are posting, i don't read their posts and think...wow every (insert greek org) must be (insert adjective) because susyposter said she got drunk (or whatever). i think it is extremely naive to think that one person on a message board could make or break a group's reputation. oh, yeah, especially since there is no way to verify that someone is really a member of a group they claim to be....
