Those in Chicago that wear the Green Grranimals(ol' Skool!) type of gear live on the West Side, which is like another Country here! *LOL* There's Chicago, and then there's West Chicago. I think Detroit and St. Louis are a little more evenly matched.
BTW, I feel you on the DC All-Star weekend! I used to live there, and as a woman that is not looking to stand in the Chicken Line to get a ball player, I would never go to All-Star weekend festivities. I love sports, but that environment is a bit too much for me. One of my friends got pushed down the stairs at a party b/c she was hanging out with a ball player who is her cousin, and a girl was trying to get to him, so she pushed her right down the stairs! OK then....
Just retire at the height of your player career...We'll support you!
