There's also an article on ESPN where Dan Patrick says that the Spurs SHOULD NOT sign Jason Kidd this summer - what do all the Spurs fans think of that? It brings up an interesting point, in that the Spurs have one of the best young point guards in the game right now; do you sacrifice his confidence to bring in the best point guard in the game?
There are HUGE debates on most Spurs forums on whether the SPURS should pursue Jermaine O'Neal of the Pacers or try to test Don Sterling and his devotion to Elton Brand of the Clippers. O'Neal would be easier to acquire, he is a FA, while Brand is a Restricted FA, meaning the Clips have the ability to match whatever offer the Spurs make and keep him.

I think most Spurs fans would prefer to see the team sign a big man to replace DRob rather than JKidd. Personally, JKidd's great and all, but TP has lead his team to 2 wins shy of the NBA Championship in his 2nd season. I say you stick with the youth.

As for the Brand vs. O'Neal debate. Brand is more of a replacement for DRob. Not too flashy of a scorer, but VERY solid all the way around and has a complete game. O'Neal offers a substantial offensive threat, and paired with Duncan would give opposing teams fits. You can't double both of them, and if you leave one open he will own you. The down side (if there is one) to O'Neal is that he seems to be a me-first player, concerned with getting his shots and his points. It remains to be seen how Pop could mesh him into the team concept of the Spurs game.

All in all, if O'Neal can be had and made to understand that he and Tim will share the scoring options and he is happy with it, i would love to see him in a Spurs uni. If not, i say the Spurs sign him anyway, let him play next year, and then organize a trade to bring in Brand when he's unrestricted.

KS 361 rings the Spurs would win with a lineup of TP, Manu, Bowen, O'Neal, and Duncan, with Speedy and SJax coming off the bench
