When Saving Private RYan, one of the best war epics of all time featuring one of the greatest action sequences ever, lost to a fictitious, ridiculous and gratuitous tale about a girl who dresses like a boy to impress William Shakespeare, for best picture, The Oscars lost all credibility.

I basically got over all awards shows because most of them now cater to a mainstream culture. Even MTV didn't used to be like that. In 92 (or 93), best picture was between T2, Menace 2 Society, and a couple other VERY good films. Instead of picking the highest grossing movie of the year and was still a great movie, they picked Menace 2 Society, one of the most critically regarded movies of that year.

And when all awards ceremonies do is allow Joan Rivers and her equally annoying daughter to rant and rave about how everyone is dressed, even though no one really cares, you know these shows have reached their peak and are going downhill.
