In Seattle, they do the pigs as well. It's kind of neat how it originated though. Down at the Pike Place Market there is a huge Bronze pig, which is actually a piggy bank for donations to the market. They took the pig idea, and ran it all over town, with the pigs all decorated diferently by an array of artists. They were displayed for a while all over the city, then auctioned off. All the proceeds went to the Market Foundation, which helps the low-income and homless people in the area, and general improvements and historic preservations to the Market.
