Could this be a double standard?

Maybe. In my opinion the whole "long, pretty hair" thing is very deep rooted in our culture. You can't deny that folks have been talking about nappy vs. straight and happy for a LONG time now. The braids on men issue is fairly new and not a heated. It's not as "historical" as natural/short hair on women debate. Also, it's hard to put the two side by side because braids only alter the STYLE of the hair, not the TEXTURE. Much of that last thread where we talked about hair was directed towards the texture of it.

Braids are Braids. However, not all natural hair looks one way so how can you say you don't like ANY natural styles? That's what I love about it. There are all kinds of gradients/textures. With braids and perms it's either flat/curled in some way or BRAIDED.

Hell, I don't like cornrows period. I never did my little sister's hair that way when I was living at home, and I never wear them unless I'm going to bed.
