There are lots of fun things to do in Minneapolis, especially in the summer. If you live near Minneapolis, you should really take advantage of doing things aroung Lake Calhoun and Harriet, such as rollerblading or free concerts. There's a lot of good local music, check out City Pages. Most of my friends have met other couple friends through church or work. However living "South of the river" (i.e. Savage, Burnsville) is totally different, most people who live in the southern suburbs don't go north of the river much.

If you're looking for cool bars downtown or uptown, check out:
Brit's Pub (Nicollet Mall, enourmous outdoor bar with lawn bowling on roof)
Martini Blu (smoke-free, Downtown at the Grand Hotel)
Gluek's (Laid-back German bar, downtown)
Chino Latino (Chinese/Mexican restaurant/trendy bar in Uptown)
Bar Abilene (Mexican bar/restaurant, Uptown)
The Local (Nicollet Mall)

Write back if you want other suggestions, such as churches, or places to live
I attend Univ. of Minnesota, and I'd agree with everything that was said. I love, love, love City Pages, cause its free and it tells you all about stuff that is going on in the cities. I'd suggest just hanging out in Uptown, walking around, you'll run into a ton of really friendly people and find out about things that are going on!
