Florida State is coming out of a two-year down cycle, caused by a number of factors that converged all at once. They include the death of a player, the loss of three key coaches and their replacement by some maybe not so suited to the chemistry of the program, and a public focus on the gambling and other crimes of the back-up quarterback. Trust me, I know Bobby Bowden and he is an incredibly tough, capable and charismatic leader. FSU has a good chance to win big on the field this fall, and if that happens it will solve a lot of problems quickly. The out-of-conference is, per usual, the toughest in the country, with games against Colorado, Notre Dame, Florida and Miami. I don't expect us to run the table, but I do expect us to win the ACC again for the 10th time in 11 years. It all depends on whether Rix has grown into the job and doesn't go squirrely.
For what it's worth, Bobby Bowden was president of his fraternity in college, and initiated his son Jeff (now offensive coordinator) into the same fraternity at FSU in 1980.
