I believe that the man was in a hot air balloon with others. They were crashing so they decided to get rid of some weight. They took off their clothes but it wasn't helping. Then they decided that one man was going to have to jump out, so they gave him a back pack but said it was a parachute. He jumped out. It was not a parachute.
