when i was 18, (summer of 2000) i was riding home with my sister and best friend from church. we were in my friend's dad's truck. while we were approaching this intersection, i was fiddling with this tape recorder cause we had taped the night's church service. i was looking down when i suddenly heard my friend make this gut wrenching scream. my head shot up just in time to see her t bone this car that was making this left turn. we hit the car right in the passenger side. the truck we were in did a 180 degree turn. the air bags came out and we were stuck in the truck cause the door jammed. the smell of burnt rubber and gas filled the air. due to the small size, the car that we hit was totaled. my friend, my sister, and i were able to kick the doors open. that is when we saw the car that we hit. we lost it. there was a guy in the passenger seat that we found out was a visitor from another country. he died on impact. the driver had a broken leg and rib. how were we? we just got bruises and cuts...lucky us

my friend went through shock, depression, and guilt for what felt like forever and had to fight it in court for the next year. she was found not guilty. it was an experience i will never forget. it happened all because i told my friend to take a certain way home.
