Just got back...
so I thought I had better check in! I had a wonderful time at the luncheon. It was in a cute little cafe and the food was really good. But the best part was the precious women that I met (see Southern Belle Primer about precious.) The Alum chapter has about 130 members, but there were only 13 there besides me. They were also disappointed at the low turnout. I sat across from 2 neat older (older than me even-ha) ladies; one was a 50-year member. There were also several that I had met at the Senior Celebration. When they sang the grace before lunch, one of the sweet ladies said "OH - I forgot that Lizz doesn't know the words! I'm already thinking of her as a sister!"
When I was introduced, the membership chair said "Lizz is a prospective AI and she will be attending a couple of our events in the fall, and then we will start the process." They, evidently, had decided not to have any summer events.
Soooo, it looks as if I will not know anything "for sure" until fall. I was a little disappointed, because I am not the most patient person in the world. BUT, I did get a good feeling about the group, on the whole. They all were very friendly and easy to talk to. I did not feel left out or awkward, even though I was basically on my own (without my sponsor, whose grandson graduates from high school today.)
From past conversations, I think the chapter was burned a time or two by AI's who were initiated and were never heard from again. I guess I can understand why they want to make absolutely sure. I have stressed that I do plan to be active and participate in their chapter.
I wish I had something more definite to report, because everyone has been so supportive and interested in my progress. I truly thank you for that - it means a lot to me.
I think I am creeping up on my home!!
