Poplife, don't sleep on the Democrats, either. not to say they are perfect (i KNOW better) but don't forget during the Clinton Admin. we saw:
Ron Brown - Secretary of Commerce, leader of the DNC
David Satcher and Jocelyn Elders - Surgeon Generals (Soror Marilyn Gaston - asst. Surgeon General)
Soror Hazel O'Leary - Secretary of Energy (?)
Delta Alexis Hermann - Secretary of (i forgot)
Togo West
Rodney -- Secretary of Transportation
Mike Espy - former Secretary
President Clinton had a Black speechwriter during his term (those of you who read JET may have seen him)
Clinton, whether you like him or not, put Blacks in major positions in his Cabinet (some w/undue controversy). as far as the first Black president being a Republican...at this point, i don't see it. Blacks around the country have a major distrust of the Republican Party(90+% of Black vote went to Gore, the highest for a Democratic candidate in years). several Black Republicans lost in races around the country.
this Bush attempt at outreach/diversity won't change many minds about the Republican Party.
people like this Jesse Lee Peterson won't either.
