It's amazing how much the network has changed.

My hometown is actually where ESPN began and is still based (Bristol, Connecticut). Growing up around ESPN was awesome, and when I got into high school I actually did a few stories for the local newspaper on ESPN personalities, the opening of ESPNews, the 20th anniversary, and a few other of the goings-on down there.

Talking to the people who have worked down there the whole time (not just on-air talent, but the technicians, researchers, and everyone else), you get a sense of how a network goes from low-profile to high-profile.

The great thing is that many of the anchors are still really cool people. Stuart Scott, Rich Eisen, Chris Berman, Dan Patrick, Karl Ravech, Bob Ley, and a bunch others have been nothing but friendly and extremely approachable in every instance I've had talking to them. In fact, Keith Olberman was the only anchor who was a jerk.

Pretty impressive considering how big they've become.
