To answer your question about how Tarralyn Ramsey can be eligible even though she's a gospel singer with a CD, the rules for Born To Diva state that you have to be UNSIGNED to a label at the time of the contest. Tarralyn's CD was released on Verity Records in 2000 (AWESOME CD!!!). Apparently, she is no longer signed to Verity, so that makes her a free agent and eligible to compete in the competition. However, I think someone would have made a big stink if she had been a Pop or R&B singer and had a project out. Gospel is coming up, but unfortunately, it still hasn't reached the same caliber and level of appreciation of Secular music.
I love Tarralyn, and I've been voting for her. However, I think she's playing herself. Just by her being on this show, and by some of the things that she has said, she is making it look as if she only recorded a Gospel CD to get paid. She made a statement that said something to the effect of ," People may know of Tarralyn Ramsey the Gospel Artist, but what they don't know is that Tarralyn the Gospel Artist didn't have $100 in her bank account." Plus, you have to question her management and record company. What kind of contract did they really have her under not to make any cash? John P. Kee produced her. That's enough to sell CD's by itself. Plus, when she was in the studio on the show, and they interviewed her, she said that she had to "detox" herself and stop singing like a "straight up church girl." Honey...if you were born to sing in church, you're gonna sound like a "straight up church girl" no matter what you sing! There' s nothing wrong with it! I sound like a straight-up church girl when I sing and I'm proud of it!
I have read articles dated back to when she first came out, and she was saying that she has turned down mainstream contracts because she was doing what God called her to do. This was back in her early teens. Now? I'm not the one to say that she has abandoned her calling, but that's how it looks.
I will be watching tomorrow night. No matter what, God's anointed always has favor! If it's in God's will, she will win this competition. And HE will get the glory!!!
Hope this answers your question!
